The Wellbeing Foundation course is a great starting point for gaining and understanding overall wellbeing. It is full of useful information and practical activities that you can take away and use in your everyday lives and workplaces - either for yourselves or to support your teams.

The course is broken down into 4 areas, each area has a task with it that you can do for yourself or within your work setting. You do not need to hand in any of these tasks, they are for your own personal development. The areas are:

Unit 1: Growth Mindset

Unit 2: Mindfulness

Unit 3: Equality and Diversity

Unit 4: Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Personal Development

The 4 areas contained in the units above have been specifically chosen to support personal development and growth.

  • Why do some people succeed where others fail?

  • Why do some people progress where others stand still?

This can be partly down to background, money, life experiences, interests etc, but there is one fundamental thing that anyone who succeeds has – A Growth Mindset. They learn from failures and continue to develop, they have an ability to see problems as a learning opportunity and not something that will stop them. They have a desire to succeed and will overcome any challenges that they are faced with.

So, in effect, you can have all of the knowledge and training in the world, but without the correct mindset to use this knowledge effectively then you may not progress as far as you would like.

To have a Growth Mindset you need to be mindful, and we will learn more about this in Unit 2. By being mindful, you will learn how you can develop better relationships with those around you and in your team. You will learn how to communicate more effectively and how to direct conversations towards desired outcomes. You will learn how this can help you in your personal life and in your career.

Moving on from this, in Unit 3, we will discuss Equality and Diversity. How does this fit in to wellness I can hear you say? Well, once you have seen how having a growth mindset and being more mindful can support you in your conversations and careers, then you can move on from here and see how we must also be open to, and fully understand, Equality and Diversity in order to make effective change. What we mean by this is that you can have a growth mindset and be very mindful in your approach, but if you do this without recognising what Equality and Diversity means for you and your company, then you won’t be being fully mindful with all. You may not be reaching and supporting your whole team, which, at the end of the day, is not what we want.

The final Unit looks at Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Personal development. You will learn what Neuro-Linguistic Programming is and how it can support you in your lives and personal development. It works on the premise that are not your thoughts and how if you understand how you can change this, then you are more open to accepting others, you have more effective conversations and you build better relationships with those around you.

As discussed earlier, the 4 units above have been chosen to support personal development and growth, with the premise that if you are able to be more mindful and open with yourself, then you will do this more easily with others. By having a growth mindset culture within your company you can create a more powerful working environment that is positive, works on mutual respect, creates a stronger workforce who are more adaptable to change and at the end of it all, are more productive.
